Well. NaNo.
There are two possiblities.
1. I call the whole thing my personal NaNoFinMo and work on finishing my 2006 and /or 2007 NaNo project. The 2006 thing keeps coming back to me. There are huge parts of it that I really like, I still love my characters and think about them, and it's easy to get back in the mood for that story. I've been planning on finishing it for the last two years, but I never even got started, probably because I have no idea where it's supposed to go. What made it worse is that I'll need at least another 50k to make the story work out.
But who cares about all this when it's November! Which makes NaNoWriMo 09 the perfect time to at least begin part two of "my NaNo 2006 project that still doesn't have a working title".
In addition to this, some days ago my 2007 NaNovel, a PotC fanfic I had believed dead and buried, stirred on my external hard drive and started poking me. Rereading it I found out that the beginning is indeed as bad as I thought, but the rest seems alright, and some parts of dialogue amuse me to no end - and they were supposed to do that! I'd like to give it another chance, continue with the plot and later edit out what I don't like.
2. Thanks to
fay_morgenstern I have a new project. Other than that it's fanfic, I won't tell you what it is, because it would embarrass me if you knew. Anyway, today I just about promised her that if I didn't begin to write that thing now, I would declare it this year's NaNo project. O_o Therefore I must start with it as soon as possible - I don't think I could survive a month in the company of this Horrendous Plotbunny of utter Crack.
One thing's for sure, I won't start a completely new story this year (except for said HPouC). The old ones keep nagging me, and I can't let them go yet.
So, who's participating? What are you going to write?

It's Bandom-RPF. Eheheheh. Mostly gen, though, and a cyberpunky space-au, so, yeah. let's see how that goes. I'm excited, and need to do a little more worldbuilding, possibly, but I don't exactly know where to start. :(
It's great that you're participating again this year. Last year was so depressing when everybody dropped out or wasn't aboard in the first place, so I dropped out, too. But this year may well be the last year I have enough time for NaNo for some time, so I want to savour it. And that means having NaNo fun with you guys. :)
Really, the last thing I need at the moment is another unfinished project cluttering up my mental to do list.
Yeah, that's what I thought, too. Which is why I'm probably going to use the time finishing & editing some stuff, not starting something new.
And if you have to decide between NaNo and Yuletide, I can see why you want to do the latter. NaNo is fun, and a learning experience, but Yuletide feels more purposeful and as much about recipient and product as it's about the writing. It just leaves you with a different feeling. (Not better or worse, just different.)
I should probably openly announce that and tell other people how it's going because I know I won't do it without the pressure. Probably. *sigh* I am too lazy.
And it's not necessarily an either/or situation. I just don't want to put too much on my plate at the moment, and since I haven't done Yuletide before, I can't really gauge how much of my time it'll take up. Once I know how it works for me, I might be able to do both.
It's the same for me. Well, in 2006 I wrote a novel without any real fantasy element, but it was always in the back of my mind that I could introduce one... and the story isn't finished yet. I don't know, there's just something missing if the scenario is completely "realistic". ;)
Your idea sounds great. Yay for history/low fantasy combinations! I'm curious how it's going to work out.
Glad to hear you're participating as well :D All that creative energy bouncing around in November, it's just too good to miss! See you in schreibwut, yes?
And pffft, working titles. Who needs working titles. ;)
